Huntingdon Launches Heart of Huntingdon Campaign

Montgomery, Ala. – In front of a large audience of students, faculty, staff and trustees of the College to kickoff Homecoming weekend, President J. Cameron West announced the launch of the Heart of Huntingdon campaign, a $17 million fundraising effort to build a new wellness facility in the center of campus.  Once completed, the project located in the existing footprint of Pratt and Hanson Hall will include a third gymnasium on campus, a strength and conditioning facility, an indoor walking track, and an outdoor swimming pool.

“This facility will be the capstone of a two-decade facility renewal effort that has either updated or created every building and space on campus,” stated West.  “Huntingdon has been blessed by enormous financial support from alumni, friends and donors to the College who time and time again have seen the vision and value for gifts to Huntingdon facility campaigns.  These investments in academic spaces, technology, residence life, religious life, and athletics have propelled Huntingdon to a great era of enrollment growth and helped attract each of our students here today.”

West noted that Huntingdon has one of the most physically fit student bodies in higher education.  “Not only do our student-athletes make their health and fitness a priority, but many of our non-athletes have gym memberships and need a dedicated space on campus where they can work out, engage in recreational activities with friends, and de-stress from the demands that college life presents.”

Senior Vice President for Student and Institutional Development Dr. Anthony Leigh announced that the College has secured $8.5 million of the $17 million project goal.  “Our entire team looks forward to continuing to share the vision for this project with alumni and friends of the College to make this dream a reality,” Leigh stated.

SGA President Nevaeh McIntyre, a senior from Pelham, Alabama, spoke at the announcement of her excitement for the wellness center.  “Although I and my senior classmates won’t be here to enjoy this facility, I am thrilled that future generations of Huntingdon students will have this space to connect with other Hawks and to enhance their fitness and wellness.”
